FR. TRAVERS NAMED PRESIDENT, MR. SAM PEARSALL APPOINTED PRINCIPAL OF DAMIEN
Msgr. Sal Pilato, Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, announced that on July 1st, 2010, Fr. Patrick Travers, SS.CC, the principal for the last thirty years, will serve as Damien’s first ever president, and Mr. Sam Pearsall, the school’s Assistant Principal for the past seven years, will become Damien’s first lay principal.
As president, Fr. Travers’ responsibilities include being the school’s spiritual leader, will oversee finances, fundraising, marketing, community relations, and act as CEO of the Consultative Board. He will also continue to direct the Tijuana Mission Outreach.
As principal, Mr. Sam Pearsall will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum and will oversee the faculty, coaches and support staff. He will coordinate the ongoing self-evaluation process required by the WCEA and WASC and will also direct the process by which the school arrives at its philosophy.
Mr. Pearsall is a 1982 Damien graduate. After graduating from Loyola Marymount University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, he began teaching at Damien in 1986. He obtained his Single Subject Credential in Mathematics from the University of La Verne, M.A. in Mathematics from Cal State San Bernardino, and Administrative Credential and M.S. in Educational Administration from Cal State Fullerton.
